Faculty Contribute to Diversity in Healthcare Professions Paper

Articletitle.jpgThe Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities extended a great privilege to Mercy College Faculty Dr. Bud Marr and Bo Bonner when, through coordination with Mercy College President Barbara Decker, the two were asked to contribute on the white paper “Diversity in Healthcare Professions: A Catholic Higher Education Imperative.”

Mercy Students Making Change, Again

Mercy College Association of Nursing Students (MCANS) participated in the 2016 Iowa Association of Nursing Students (IANS) State Convention in Cedar Rapids, IA this week. Two resolutions were developed and presented by MCANS; one related to making allergy checks an additional right of drug administration and the other was to raise awareness of ineffective advance care directive use in the hospital setting. Both resolutions passed unanimously at the state convention!

The skills learned in Math for General Studies or College Algebra are essential for accurately performing drug calculations and safely administering the correct dosage, while the principles of Servant Leadership establish and/or cement the foundation of an empathic healthcare provider with a commitment to lifelong learning. Well, here’s the truth – there is no conspiracy. There is, however, a natural integration of knowledge among seemingly diverse disciplines, as well as between the liberal arts and sciences as a whole and professional program education.
